Kevin Gentges 16 3/4″ Viola, Germany, 2007

This 425mm (16 ¾”) by the contemporary German maker, Kevin Gentges, features a handsome, flamed, maple back with matching ribs and a fine spruce top plate of medium, evenly spaced reed lines which exhibits some occasional ‘hazel’ figure. The varnish is of a warm mid-brown, applied in a shaded faux-antique pattern.

Kevin Gentges runs a shop and workshop with his business partner Felix Scheit, this viola was made in Dresden in 2007, the business has since moved to Berlin where they currently operate. The viola features the maker’s ‘master’ level set-up with Pirastro Evah Pirazzi strings and it has a great big ‘large-viola’ sound with impressive projection.

The Gentges viola has been played professionally since it was made and would be ideally suited to the advanced or professional violist.
